Within Every Tear, There's a Suture, Every Scar-A Scab

Inspired by The Hunt of the Unicorn tapestries housed at the Met Cloisters in New York, “Tear Suture Scab” explores the redemptive power of the unicorn as exemplified in Medieval European art, through an Afro-futurist lens. Surrealist and absurdist in concept, it is an allegory of death, resurrection, and the release of trauma. Its fantastical imagery and coded humor disarm the viewer while addressing the violence that marks Black American life. Scored by Greg Tate, it was the legendary cultural critic and composer’s final film project. Written and directed by Ayo Janeen Jackson, the film runs 24 minutes.
